For many people, cosmetic surgery is a female-only domain where males have little to do.  However, recent studies prove this notion wrong.   No doubt, the list of female patients is much higher than the men but male cosmetic surgery trend is growing fast as well.  The trend is on a rapid change as more and more males are turning towards cosmetic surgery to correct or change different parts of the body.

A survey conducted by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery shows that during the past decade the number of male cosmetic surgery patients has increased dramatically.  During a ten years’ time, an increase of 256% is seen in male cosmetic surgery patients.  The figure is still growing, as over 14% cosmetic surgery patients are male.  The uptrend seems natural since the competitive world is making people more conscious of their appearance, which is taken a plus point in many places.  A good looking and physically fit male always gets extra points in an interview or gets the attention of others in any social gathering.

Male cosmetic surgery procedures are the ones that are widely preferred by males.  If we still take the figures of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, five male cosmetic surgery procedures are the more popular ones.  They include liposuction, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, hair transplantation, and breast reduction.  Liposuction is a kind of surgery where excess fat can be removed from certain parts of the body.  Rhinoplasty is a procedure where you can reshape the nose.  Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure involving the eyelid.  Hair transplantation becomes necessary to make the hair grow on hairless parts of scalp. Breast reduction in male becomes necessary when the breast size increases embarrassingly.

Most of the times, male cosmetic surgery remains a pure cosmetic need where people want it to be done to improve their appearance, to hide aging signs, to change the look of a body part, etc.  However, in some cases, a male cosmetic surgery procedure becomes essential due to some medical needs.  For instance, when you are unable to reduce your waistline after trying many serious weight loss measures, you have to undergo a liposuction surgery to suck out the fat.  Failing to do so can result in an open invitation to many serious kinds of diseases.  Likewise, any body part needs ‘repairing’ or correction after an accident or trauma.

Various surveys are being conducted to find out male response to cosmetic surgery.  The results are indicative of a growing male approval to undergo cosmetic surgery provided financial and other necessities are satisfied.  Perhaps the greater hindrance in undergoing a cosmetic surgery procedure is the cost involved and lack of coverage by insurance companies.  Cosmetic surgery is not covered under most of the insurance policies, however, when such a surgery has to be done due to a medical need, the chances of getting the coverage increases a lot.

Male cosmetic surgery is gaining popularity due to the vast advertisements and promotional works done by cosmetic clinics.  Many are getting aware of the possibility that they are in control of changing unwanted shape of a body part.  Men are getting aware of the benefits of cosmetic surgery and appreciating the results that can be had if you harness the immense power of cosmetic surgery.

Male cosmetic surgery is no doubt brings very encouraging news or solutions for many people but it shouldn’t be taken lightly even if you are capable to afford its cost without burdening your budget.  Though considered a safe procedure, any surgery is associated with many risks and complications.  Therefore, the decision should be taken when a surgical procedure becomes essential.
